Holy Week 2019

Holy Week

As we enter into the holiest week of the Church Year, I invite you to participate and celebrate the Triduum (Three Days) with us! Each parish will offer the Church's ancient liturgies of Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Holy Saturday. On Holy Thursday we will celebrate the institution of the Holy Eucharist by Jesus himself, the Sacrament of Holy Orders which Jesus ordained his first priests and the washing of the feet and the call to service of priests and people.

On Good Friday, the Church celebrates the saving death of Jesus Christ on the Cross.  It is the only day of the year that Mass is forbidden because each Mass is a remembrance of that first Good Friday whereby we were all redeemed by Jesus' death on the cross. Lastly, the Triduum concludes with the Holy Saturday Vigil whereby we celebrate the liturgy of light, Jesus Christ, whose resurrection has brought light to the whole human race.  At this Mass we officially welcome new Catholics who were Baptized or made full profession into the Catholic Church.

We invite you to celebrate the beautiful gift of our Faith at any of our parishes this Holy Week.  A blessed Easter of Jesus' Resurrection to you and your families from all of us in the Rock Island Vicariate of the Diocese of Peoria.
